The specialty pharmacy field is wrought with a variety of complex distribution network strategies, mounds of data reporting, and a persistent need to realize treatment outcomes while reducing costs and waste. In an environment of such high spending and pressured performance, managed care pharmacists need standardized measures reported by specialty pharmacies to promote the safe, effective, and optimal use of specialty medications.
In this session, attendees will learn how to describe a recent multisite national effort to reach consensus among specialty pharmacy stakeholders on reporting measures to be used in specialty pharmacy practice. Understanding the modified Delphi methods and the results from these efforts presented will help to fill a gap in the field by describing how consensus can be reached, who should be involved, and what results are possible that are generalizable yet usable, feasible yet meaningful. Managed care stakeholders will benefit from learning about this methodology to reach a consensus that includes other managed care stakeholders and the potential to implement agreed-upon measures into contract reporting requirements. The future of consensus in specialty pharmacy is bright.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Explain the current state of outcome measurement and reporting in specialty pharmacy.
Describe the process and lessons learned from designing and executing the modified Delphi methodology to determine consensus on meaningful measures to be used in specialty pharmacy practice.
Review case studies of how the modified Delphi methodology has been used to reach consensus by a national multistakeholder panel including results in rheumatoid arthritis, ongoing efforts in inflammatory bowel diseases, and future plans across specialty areas.
